All the way from Lotus River, CJ Benson started doing stand-up comedy because of a dare. His comedy is drawn from his experiences and observations of everyday life including that of family and friends. He does not consider himself a stand-up comedian, “humour distribution manager” is a title he's more comfortable with.
Since he broke out onto the comedy circuit he has performed in front of numerous crowds big and small and has always left with the same results: laughs and lots of it. After only a few months on the comedy circuit he went on to win the Jokers Comedy Club Open Mic Competition where he got the opportunity to perform at the prestigious Jou Ma Se Comedy Club now known as the Cape Town Comedy Club and has since been back there to perform on numerous occasions .
He also performed alongside Alan Committie, Rob van Vuuren & Mark Banks at the Fugard Festival of Comedy. He then went on to become the winner of the Chilli Bar Comedy Grand Challenge Competition and has also performed at various charity events. He was selected as the opening act for Kagiso Mokgadi's one man show "Heavy" at the Baxter Theatre and earned rave reviews Cape Town's humour distribution manager is here and we're better people because of it.
